2. The content of the 5S process:
5S is derived from the abbreviation of five Japanese words:
- Seiri (整理) – Sort: Evaluate and categorize tools and materials. Remove unnecessary items and keep important items in the factory or work area.
- Seiton (整頓) – Set in order: Arrange and organize everything in a logical and orderly manner. Place items in designated locations for easy access. Prioritize visual clarity to facilitate identification, reduce search time.
- Seiso (清掃) – Shine: Maintain cleanliness in the workplace, including machinery and equipment. Reinforce awareness among employees to collectively contribute to creating an aesthetically pleasing work environment. Conduct regular inspections and reminders to employees.
- Seiketsu (清潔) – Standardize: Maintain and continuously improve workplace activities to achieve the highest efficiency. Use labels and color-coded markings to visually control the system.
- Shitsuke (躾) – Sustain: Educate the awareness and habits of all employees, strictly adhere to regulations. Regularly inspect workplace principles to establish a cultural foundation within the organization.
